Best Italian Wine Awards

Go check out this site: http://www.biwawards.it/site/

This is a new competition to annually decide which currently available wines are Italy’s 50 best. That must be an incredibly difficult task, and perhaps in reality may not make too much sense vis-à-vis the inability to take into account personal tastes etc., but one thing I do note with great pleasure: Among the predictable massive showing by Tuscany and Piedmont, with many of my favourite wines from both places, southern Italian wines make a great showing. Just consider that among the 50 greatest Italian wines, a really competent panel found that 9 southern Italian wines – or 18% – were so good that they deserved a place on the list. A southern Italian wine even came in at number 1.

You can see the full list by following the link, but in the below I have extracted the southern Italian wines, all among my favourite producers:

Valentini

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2007
